Is the legal industry prepared to embrace job sharing to keep their best talent working while they also raise a family?
There's evidence to say they are.
For Jessica Yeung and Anna Lau, two young mothers from the USA, a work-life balance has been achieved. The two lawyers at the Vancouver office of Borden Ladner Gervais have the same assistant, computer monitor, desk and they also share something else crucial too - a very happy set of clients because the set-up means they are billed for the price of one lawyer, but have access between the two almost 24/7.
With lawyers traditionally taking a huge amount of their case load home with them the stress on personal and family has long been an issue.
But with this experiment not only being neutral in terms of the firm's offering to clients but also actually enhancing their service, could we be about to see the legal profession take job sharing on in a big way?
