Well, that went rather well didn't it - Flying the Flexi Flag

Today's launch of the new flexible working rules went as well as anyone could have hoped for, with the story leading the news across radio and TV news outlets.

The message that flexible working could become a reality for more workers than ever before has been well and truly transmitted and now we all need to ensure it is backed up with actions from employers and employees alike.

All workers with 26 weeks or more service will be allowed to request flexible working, which employers in turn must address in a "reasonable manner". Until now, you only had the right if you had children under 17 (or 18 if they have a disability) or if you cared for an adult dependant.

What's more, in a recent survey by Jobsite 66% of employees said that given the opportunity they would request flexible working. In fact the major social media channels were awash with positivity about flexi working today which was great to see.

There was even a rumour that the whole thing was down to Dolly Parton having belted out 9to5 a day earlier at Glastonbury, but not even Twitter could substantiate that!

Flexible working really came of age today and once people start to put their cases together to take to bosses the attraction of a Job Share will hit home. If employers pull a funny face at the thought of a part time roll offering them the option of a job share could be the difference between getting a green light instead of a knock back.

All you need to do is find your perfect job share partner...
